Visionary Tourism Corridor: Juan de Fuca Strait Bioregion

The Juan de Fuca Strait bioregion—stretching across the diverse coastal ecosystems that separate southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia from the northern coastline of Washington State—forms a unique cross-border natural and cultural landscape along the Salish Sea. On behalf of Destination Canada, Place Generation is supporting the development of a visionary tourism corridor grounded in regenerative and inclusive principles that honour both the ecological richness and the cultural diversity of the region.

To shape this initiative, Place Generation conducted a comprehensive process of interviews and participatory workshops on both sides of the Strait. This co-creative approach culminated in a tripartite framework consisting of a forward-looking strategy, a targeted investment plan, and a phased implementation roadmap.

The project is being delivered in close collaboration with the destination development division of CBRE Canada. On the U.S. side, we are working in active partnership with stakeholders from the Pacific Northwest Region (PNWR), who bring valuable regional expertise and cross-border alignment. Throughout the process, the meaningful involvement of Indigenous communities from both Canada and the United States has been central, ensuring that traditional knowledge, stewardship values, and community aspirations are embedded in every phase of the corridor's development.
